Abstract

Quality of Service (QoS) is primary characteristic of Mobile Ad hoc Networks (MANETs) with power as a vital ingredient. A MANET topology considers minimum power management scheme for routing the packets from source to destination. Due to dynamic mobility of nodes power conservation in MANET environment becomes challenging. Normally Routes break during the data transmission. Failure of routes will lead to greater overload and increased delay. So there is a necessary for a cost effective method for efficient data forwarding with better energy consumption. This paper proposes an Efficient Power Aware Multipath Protocol based on AODV (EPAM-AODV) utilizing receiving power, transmission distance and hop count when the request packets are received during route discovery. Simulation is done using NS-2. The simulation results show that EPAM-AODV has higher average packet delivery ratio and average throughput than traditional AODV. It also shows that average packet loss ratio of proposed protocol is less than AODV. © 2016 IEEE.
