Abstract

The recent past has witnessed the requirement of high-speed data communication in wireless network. In fulfilling these needs various modulation techniques like Phase-Shift Keying (PSK), Frequency-Shift Keying (FSK), Amplitude-Shift Keying (ASK), Quadrature Amplitude Modulation (QAM), Frequency-Division Multiplexing (FDM) etc. The Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplex (OFDM) is a modulation technique and significant air link technologies to achieve future wireless communications. In order to bring the efficiency in bandwidth, system performance, smart antenna and adaptive resource allocation techniques are significantly implemented in OFDM. But, the utilization of fully adaptive beam forming in an OFDM system enhances the complexity of medium access control layer design and which affect the implementation of adaptive resource allocation (ARA). This paper introduces an efficient mechanism of Cross-layer ARA (CARA) with Hybrid Adaptive Array (HAA) and Switched-beam Smart Antenna (SSA) for OFDM systems. By using various smart antenna (SA) mechanisms based on requirements of different Quality of Service (QoS), the proposed system significantly minimizes the complexity of ARA in OFDM system and maintains the better system performance. © Springer Nature Switzerland AG 2019.
